Genomma Lab, the first pharmaceutical company to receive EDGE certification for environmental efficiency in the West

The Genomma Lab Industrial Complex in the State of Mexico has received the EDGE certification (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies), the solution for green buildings created by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private arm of the World Bank Group. With this, it becomes the first pharmaceutical company in the Western Hemisphere to meet the standards required by this certification.

The Industrial Complex is made up of a plant for personal care products, a pharmaceutical plant and a distribution center that meet the standards determined by said certification.

In the Pharmaceutical Plant for OTC (over-the-counter) products, the savings are 45% in energy, 37% in water and the use of 42% less energy incorporated in materials that as a result, will save 33.13 tons of CO2 per year.

While the design of the Distribution Center contributes to savings of 26% energy, 54% water and the use of 38% less embodied energy in materials, thus avoiding 227.29 tons of CO2 per year.

The Industrial Complex has 70 thousand square meters of construction, which is equivalent to 14 soccer fields. The EDGE certification was created by the IFC in order to offer a solution to design sustainable constructions and, in this way, support and promote the efficient use of natural resources in emerging countries.
