There is an ‘intermittent’ shortage of medicines in the fifth wave of Covid-19: UNEFARM

Juvenal Becerra Orozco, president of the National Union of Pharmacy Entrepreneurs (UNEFARM), assured that there are intermittent shortages of some medicines amid the high demand for treatment for patients in the fifth wave of Covid-19 that Mexico is experiencing.

“The supply of medicines in the country is guaranteed, although intermittent shortages of some medicines continue to be registered, derived from the international supply conditions,” said the businessman.

The shortage of medicines is caused in Mexico because more than 55% of the inputs and active ingredients required by the Mexican pharmaceutical industry come from other nations.

The flow of salts and the production of raw materials abroad are expected to normalize in the coming months, Becerra Orozco added.
