The advances in the pharmaceutical industry in Mexico stand out
The pharmaceutical industry in Mexico currently generates more than 100,000 direct jobs with high participation of women that exceeds the national average.
This was highlighted by the president of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin), José Abugaber Andonie, within the framework of the XXXI National Convention of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Mexico.
Challenges of the pharmaceutical industry
The president of the National Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Canifarma), Miguel Lombera, listed the challenges that still prevail in the sector, which helps to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lombera stated that among the challenges that the sector will face in short, and medium term are:
- The link with the agents that make up the pharmaceutical and medical device value chain.
- The new schemes in public purchases.
- Changes in health regulation.
- The reform of the National Health System.
The Canifarma leader recalled that the pharmaceutical industry was declared essential during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because, during that period, the National Health System was provided with the necessary quality and affordable therapeutic goods.
The Secretary of Health of the State of Jalisco, Fernando Petersen, highlighted the pharmaceutical sector’s collaboration to solve the population’s health problems. He cited the social, public, and private collaboration as a successful example, as in the case of cancer treatments for children in Jalisco.
He also highlighted the pharmaceutical industry’s work in developing and manufacturing the vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was achieved in record time. Thanks to this, work and social activities could be resumed, helping reactivate the national economy.
